Apple has captured the largest share of the smartphone market in 10 years

Strategy Analytics has assessed the balance of power in the global smartphone market in the second quarter of this year: Shipments of smart mobile devices have declined for the fourth consecutive quarter.

A total of around 291 million smartphones were shipped from April through June. The year-on-year decline was about 7%: 314 million units were shipped in the second quarter of 2021.

The market leader is Samsung with 62.5 million smartphones sold and a share of around 21.5%. It should be noted that the South Korean giant showed the best momentum in the top five, with sales up 9.5% year over year.

In second place is Apple, which shipped 47.5 million iPhones in three months, accounting for 16.3% of the industry. Strategy Analytics emphasizes that Apple stock has hit record highs (for the second quarter of the year) over the past decade. Sales increased by 3.3% compared to the previous year.

Xiaomi completes the top 3 with 39.5 million devices shipped and 13.6% of the market. Sales of this company’s devices for the year fell by 25.2%. Also in the top five were Chinese Oppo and Vivo, which scored 9.5% and 8.6%, respectively.
