Previously, Counterpoint Technology Market Research published the results of a study on the smartphone market for the first quarter of 2022. It showed that the first three places in the top ten best-selling devices in this category are occupied by Apple’s iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro respectively. Now the company has released data showing that Apple holds more than 60% of the global premium smartphone market.

The study found that Apple’s share of the premium smartphone segment in the first quarter of 2022 reached its highest level since the first quarter of 2017. The premium smartphone segment is surpassing the overall smartphone market, with Apple holding a 62% market share thanks to the popularity of the iPhone 13 series, which has been the best-selling model every month since October last year.
Revenue growth in the ultra-premium smartphone segment is being driven by the popularity of Apple and Samsung devices. The iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro together account for more than two-thirds of total sales in this segment. This was supported by strong sales in the US, China and Western Europe. In China, smartphone sales in the $1,000+ segment grew 176% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2022.

Samsung is second in sales of premium smartphones, but the South Korean company’s share has fallen due to the delay in launching the Galaxy S22 series. It is noted that the Galaxy S22 Ultra device has become a real hit, combining the best of the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series.
