Apple called for removing animated emojis from the iOS version of Telegram

After the release of a major Telegram update, Pavel Durov, the creator of the service, explained why Apple had long delayed the release of the iOS version of the application. It turns out the company was embarrassed about the animated emoji, or Telemoji, that debuted in Messenger.

“Following extensive media coverage of my previous post, Apple has responded by asking us to reduce the functionality of the upcoming Telegram update by removing Telemoji, better versions of standard emoji in vector format with animation. This is a puzzling move by Apple, as Telemoji would add a whole new dimension to their low-resolution static emojis and greatly enrich their ecosystem. But in the long run, this is a boon for Telegram – now we’re going to make Telemoji even more unique and recognizable. We’ve also included 10 more emoji packs in today’s update – along with the ability for anyone to upload their own.”commented Incident Mr. Durov.

Animated emoticons, which debuted in the latest Telegram update, are aimed mainly at premium subscribers of the messenger, and users of the free version can only admire them in chats and post them in favorites. Some emoji can be interactive – in chats, they respond to mouse clicks or touchscreen touches. In addition, premium users have the option of blocking the sending of voice and video messages to themselves and giving away a subscription.
