This isn’t the first time Ming-Chi Kuo has announced the expected release date for Apple’s AR/VR headset, but before that his predictions had a wider scope. Last year he said the headset would see the light of day in 2022, and earlier this month he suggested that Apple should push back its launch again, this time to the second quarter of 2023.

Of course, there’s no guarantee the headset will be released in January 2023, as Apple’s plans may change or Kuo’s supply chain sources may be incorrect. But the fact that he gave a specific month speaks to the analyst’s firm confidence in his forecast.

Kuo’s optimistic forecast coincides with numerous reports of increased activity by Apple in this direction. Notably, the company’s board of directors is said to have tested the headset in early May, the RealityOS trademark for the headset’s operating system was registered, and Apple CEO Tim Cook recently hinted at upcoming announcements related to augmented reality technology.

In addition to predicting the timing of Apple’s headset release, the analyst suggested that its main competitor, Meta* Reduce short-term investment in virtual reality equipment development to focus on advertising business. And that despite meta* recently unveiled many VR helmet prototypes under development.
