Apple AirPods and AirPods Max headphones won’t get USB Type-C until next year

Next week Apple will host an event dedicated to showcasing the iPhone 15 and other new products. It is expected that in addition to smartphones and smart watches, the general public will also be presented with an updated case for wireless AirPods Pro headphones equipped with a USB Type-C interface. At the same time, the AirPods and AirPods Max headphones will apparently only get a new connector next year.

This was reported by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. He noted that despite the appearance of a new case with a USB Type-C connector, the second generation AirPods Pro headphones themselves will not undergo any changes in terms of functionality and design. At the same time, AirPods Pro will get a number of new features, including Adaptive Audio support, which recognizes the user’s music preferences, Conversation Awareness, which automatically activates transparency mode and reduces the volume of the music being played when speech is detected, and more reliable automatic switching between devices .

According to the journalist, AirPods and AirPods Max will receive more significant updates. The third-generation Standard AirPods have been out for almost two years, with the AirPods Max being introduced even earlier. It doesn’t make sense for Apple to limit itself to just replacing the power connector, since both models are based on the older H1 chip and therefore don’t have the new features of the AirPods Pro. However, updated versions of these devices will not be released until next year.
