As a reminder, Codename: Red was confirmed in September 2022. It was then announced that development would be led by creative director Jonathan Dumont, and feudal Japan would serve as the game’s entourage.
In his February article on the number of Assassin’s Creed games being developed at Ubisoft, Henderson mentioned that Codename: Red will have two main characters and a focus on stealth. Now an insider has commented in more detail.
The protagonists of Codename: Red will reportedly be a samurai from the September teaser (see the video attached above) and an African refugee who studied Assassin’s Creed and became a shinobi (ninja).
As for the emphasis on stealth, the writers of Codename: Red by Ubisoft Quebec (Odyssey, Syndicate) are reportedly targeting Hitman/Splinter Cell, planning the ability to hide bodies, hide in the grass, and destroy light sources.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Codename: Red is expected to be released in fall 2024, but Henderson has allowed it to be pushed back to 2025. An insider previously reported that development on the project is progressing at a satisfactory pace.
As part of the E3 2023 exhibition, the game is not expected to be shown – Henderson says that Ubisoft will focus on the gameplay demonstration of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the full announcement of the Nexus VR project (Assassin’s Creed VR).
