AMD today unveiled the new Radeon RX 6600 graphics accelerator. The new product is positioned as a video card for games in 1080p resolution. The card does not have a reference design, the task of its implementation is entrusted to AMD partners. At the time of this writing, a relatively small number of unreferenced Radeon RX 6600 variants from ASRock, MSI, PowerColor, ASUS, XFX, Sapphire and Gigabyte have been presented.
It makes no sense to talk about all video cards in detail, since they all have virtually the same reference characteristics. None of the manufacturers have released a factory overclocked version of the Radeon RX 6600. The reason for this is unknown. Only Ms. Lisa Su, head of AMD, seems to know the answer. Perhaps the card turned out to be so powerful that the company does not want to use it to compete with its more productive model Radeon RX 6600 XT.
Briefly recall that the Radeon RX 6600 is built on the Navi 23 GPU in a version with 28 compute units, which include 1792 stream processors. In addition, the chip is equipped with 28 ray tracing acceleration units. The average GPU clock speed in games is 2044 MHz, and the maximum Boost frequency is declared at 2491 MHz.
The novelty received 8 GB of GDDR6 RAM with a 128-bit bus and a bandwidth of 224 GB / s. There is also a high-speed 32 MB Infinity Cache buffer and support for Smart Access Memory technology, which provides direct CPU access to the entire video memory array. For connection, a PCIe 4.0 x8 interface (physical PCIe x16 slot) is used. The power consumption level of the card (TGP) at reference frequencies is 132 W. There is one 8-pin connector for additional power supply.
All third-party versions of the video card presented at the moment copy these characteristics. At the same time, almost all are equipped with two-fan cooling systems. Only Gigabyte and ASRock have distinguished themselves. The first presented the Radeon RX 6600 Eagle model, equipped with three cooling fans, the second – a compact version of the Radeon RX 6600 Challenger ITX with a single fan cooling system.
