With a delay of two weeks, AMD announced the start of sales of laptops based on the latest flagship Ryzen 7045HX (Dragon Range) mobile processors, built on the Zen 4 architecture and equipped with a graphics core with RDNA 3 architecture.

The peculiarity of the Dragon Range series processors is that they are actually Ryzen 7000 (Raphael) desktop chips, but in a mobile package. For example, the mobile flagship Ryzen 9 7945HX, like the desktop model Ryzen 9 7950X, has 16 physical cores in the form of two chiplets with 8 cores each on board.
Notably, while this is the third generation of AMD Ryzen HX processors, it is the first to offer models with more than eight cores. The new series includes models with six, eight, twelve and sixteen cores. Their main competitors are the mobile processors of the Intel Core HX series. Given the area of application, the TDP of the Dragon Range processors is in the range of 55 to 75 watts.
At the moment, the choice of both the Ryzen 7045HX processor models themselves and the laptop models in which they are used is very limited. According to VideoCardz, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16, ROG Strix G17 and ROG Strix Scar 17 laptops are available for sale, all of which are equipped with a 16-core Ryzen 9 7945HX.
According to AMD, the models Dell Alienware 16, Lenovo Legion Pro 5 and Legion Pro 7 as well as variants from MSI should be available in the coming weeks. Below is a list of laptop models that are currently available for purchase:

- ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 (Ryzen 9 7945HX + GeForce RTX 4080) – $3499.99;
- ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 (Ryzen 9 7945HX + GeForce RTX 4090) – $4499.99

AMD claims its flagship Ryzen 9 7945HX is up to 10% faster than the Intel Core i9-13950HX on average. And while the latter isn’t a flagship model – that role is filled by the Core i9-13980HX – both have 24 physical cores. The Core i9-13950HX is only 100MHz slower than the Core i9-13980HX
