AMD introduces 6nm Ryzen 6000 (Rembrandt) mobile processors with Zen 3+ and RDNA 2 architectures

AMD has officially presented the Ryzen 6000 mobile processors from the Rembrandt family. The series includes eight high-performance models of the Ryzen 6000H series for high-performance gaming laptops and two energy-efficient Ryzen 6000U models for thin and compact laptops. The manufacturer also announced a range of Barcelo mobile processors that Cezanne (Ryzen 5000U) has updated.

Ryzen 6000 mobile processors (Rembrandt) are based on the updated Zen 3+ architecture and use a new 6 nm manufacturing process. New elements are ready to offer up to 8 cores with support for up to 16 virtual threads. Ryzen 6000H series models have a claimed TDP range of 35W to 45W. The energy efficient Ryzen 6000U models have a dynamic TDP of 15W to 28W. In other words, the decision for one or the other TDP processor depends directly on the laptop manufacturers themselves.

The flagship of the new H series is the Ryzen 9 6980HX. The chip offers 8 cores with support for 16 threads and a maximum frequency of 5.0 GHz. The processor has a second and third level cache memory of 20 MB. The latest model of the high-performance Ryzen 6000H processors is the Ryzen 5 6600HS. The processor contains six cores with support for 12 virtual threads as well as 19 MB cache memory of the second and third level.

With the Ryzen 6000 processor series, AMD has finally done away with the integrated graphics of the Vega generation. The chips now use the RDNA 2 graphics architecture. The timing of the integrated graphics processor and the number of graphics cores depend on the processor model. If the junior chip Ryzen 5 6600HS uses six graphics cores with a frequency of up to 1.9 GHz, the flagship model Ryzen 9 6980HX uses twelve graphics cores with a frequency of up to 2.4 GHz. AMD does not state this, but each graphics core has 64 stream processors, which allows new products to have up to 768 stream processors.

The energy-efficient Rembrandt models are the Ryzen 7 6800U and the Ryzen 5 6600U. The first has 8 cores on board with support for 16 virtual threads, works in the frequency range from 2.7 to 4.7 GHz and is equipped with 20 MB cache memory of the second and third level. The younger model has six cores with support for twelve virtual threads, operates at frequencies from 2.9 to 4.5 GHz and has 19 MB cache memory of the second and third level. The older model is equipped with twelve integrated graphics cores based on the RDNA 2 architecture, which operate at a frequency of up to 2.2 GHz. The youngest has six graphics cores with a clock rate of up to 1.9 GHz.

The manufacturer claims up to 40% less power consumption for video streaming, up to 30% less power consumption for video conference applications and up to 15% less power consumption when working with a browser. In terms of integrated graphics performance, it is up to three times faster than direct competitors in games, and up to two times faster than the previous generation of Ryzen 5000 mobile processors – 30% higher than the previous generation, according to AMD.

Laptops based on these processors claim support for LPDDR5 memory up to 6400 MHz and DDR5 up to 4800 MHz, support for PCIe 4.0, USB4 (40 Gb / s), HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.0 readiness, support for Wi -Fi 6E wireless standards and Bluetooth LE 5.2 as well as support for AV1.

In February of this year, laptops based on AMD Ryzen 6000 processors will be offered for sale.

The 7 nm Barcelo range of mobile processors based on the Zen 3 architecture comprises three models: an eight-core Ryzen 7 5825U, a six-core Ryzen 5 5625U and a four-core Ryzen 3 5425U. The first operates in the frequency range from 2.0 to 4.5 GHz, the second from 2.3 to 4.3 GHz and the third from 2.7 to 4.1 GHz. The eight-core and six-core models received 20 and 19 MB cache memory of the second and third level, respectively. The Junior Quad-Core contains 10 MB cache memory of the second and third level. These processors use up to 8 integrated Vega graphics cores with a frequency of 1.5 to 1.8 GHz. The specified nominal power consumption of these chips is 15 watts.
