AMD Fluid Motion Frames can now be tested on Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards

AMD has released a preview version of the AMD software graphics driver: Adrenalin Edition Technical Preview Driver for AMD Fluid Motion Frames Version 23.30.01.02. The driver does not support new games. Its purpose is to give users a first look at new features, namely the AMD Fluid Motion Frames, which will soon appear in the main version of AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.

The manufacturer reported that the driver supports AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) technology. It is a frame generator similar to the NVIDIA DLSS3 image scaling technology package and is used to increase FPS. AMD notes that AFMF is now supported not only by Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards, but also by Radeon RX 6000 series accelerators.

AMD stated in its press release that AFMF is currently supported by a limited number of games that run the DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 APIs. A list of these games can be found in the table below. AFMF is also supported by Cyberpunk 2077.

To enable AFMF, games must be launched with preset settings in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. The feature starts automatically when using HYPR-RX technology or when using global graphics settings.

AMD explains that AFMF maintains image quality by dynamically disabling time-lapse imaging. In its current form, AFMF only works in full screen mode and when vertical sync is disabled. For optimal performance, AFMF requires a monitor that supports AMD FreeSync. HDR is not yet supported, so it must be disabled in Windows Settings and in the game (if enabled). AFMF may cause additional delay in signal transmission in games. Therefore, it is recommended to use the AMD Radeon Anti-Lag or Anti-Lag+ latency reduction technologies included in the driver in conjunction with it.

List of fixed issues in AMD Software Preview Driver: Adrenalin Edition 23.30.01.02:

  • Fixed an issue installing the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition driver that occurred on some system configurations.
  • The AFMF activity status indicator may suggest disabling HDR even if it is already disabled.
  • Fixed an issue with BSOD when installing the driver on some system configurations.

Known problems:

  • periodic driver crashes when AFMF is enabled and the game resolution is changed or when switching tasks (e.g. when pressing Alt+Tab to switch active windows);
  • Temporary image distortion when switching between windows with AFMF enabled on some 144Hz or higher monitors;
  • intermittent video stuttering after closing Xbox Game Bar;
  • FreeSync-enabled displays may report unstable FPS when AFMF is enabled;
  • When AFMF is enabled, some performance metrics such as: B. the frame time, possibly inconsistent results;
  • Occasionally performance metrics may not appear when enabled.

You can download a preview version of the AMD software driver: Adrenalin Edition 23.30.01.02 from AFMF from the official AMD website. The company strongly recommends performing a clean driver installation and first completely uninstalling the previous version of Radeon software.
