Amazon will create a unified universe of Tomb Raider that will include games, movies and series

The Hollywood Reporter claims Amazon wants to expand Tomb Raider’s gaming universe with movies and series. The projects will be cast by dj2 Entertainment, which worked on the film adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog and is working on film adaptations of Life Is Strange and Disco Elysium.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Tomb Raider project ranks as one of Amazon’s biggest investments since The Lord of the Rings: The Power Rings (the company spent $250 million to acquire the rights alone).

It was also revealed that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a huge Tomb Raider fan and has been cast as the unified universe’s writer and executive producer. Other executive producers mentioned are Ryan Andolina, Amanda Greenblatt and Dmitri M. Johnson.

The unified Tomb Raider universe will reflect the events of Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, as well as the upcoming game announced by Crystal Dynamics in April 2022. The latter is rumored to have been in development for a long time and is set to release a year ahead of the studio’s other project, the Perfect Dark reboot.
