According to a post on Reddit, during the invasion of the player world, hackers can gain access to the computer in the form of a red ghost. One of those perpetrators joined (moment at 01:20:10) to the streamer during a live broadcast and started a voice message in the Windows Powershell shell. It is reported that this vulnerability can give a hacker complete control over the victim’s PC.

Eurogamer portal addedthat the attacker tried to contact the developers and repeatedly spoke about this issue, but received no response. So he decided to draw attention to the vulnerability by attacking streamers. A similar exploit could also be used in the upcoming Elden Ring, which uses the same engine.

So far, Bandai Namco has not announced when the Dark Souls series servers will be back online. The publisher noted that the shutdown did not affect the Xbox and PlayStation versions.
