This week, Remedy Entertainment unveiled the first full trailer for the upcoming Alan Wake 2 and announced the game’s October 17th release date. However, the horror film will only appear in the digital version. The studio is not currently planning a boxed edition.
In the FAQ on the studio’s official website specifiedthat there are several reasons for a digital publication. One of them is that many gamers have switched to discless consoles. “You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive, just like Microsoft’s Xbox Series S.” Modern games are often only released in digital format.Remedy Entertainment explained. The second reason is to keep the price at $59.99/€59.99 for the console versions and $49.99/€49.99 for the PC version.
In addition, the studio does not want to release Alan Wake 2 on disk and requires buyers to download the game from the Internet: “We don’t think it will make a good impression”. The last point has to do with the fact that boxed editions usually come with either a floppy disk with a launcher or a download code, which disappoints gamers.
Alan Wake 2 will be released on PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
