Adobe has introduced an AI image generator that does not infringe any copyright

Adobe has joined the AI race with the introduction of “Set of generative AI models» Firefly to work with images. The tools presented by Adobe are of course aimed at people from creative professions and are characterized by the fact that they do not violate copyrights – the models are trained on images whose authors have given permission to use them.

The first presented AI tool is an analogue of the popular neural networks DALL-E or Midjourney – it also allows you to create images from a text description. The second tool lets you decorate lettering creatively and resembles an enhanced version of WordArt.

Adobe is trying to make its AI tools easier to use. For example, instead of entering a detailed description of how to style an image, Adobe provides built-in options for art styles, lighting, and aspect ratio. Users can also apply these effects to an already created image instead of creating a new one each time. The Text Effect tool works similarly, with built-in options for effect size and background color.

In the future, Adobe will bring even more AI tools onto the market, including for image processing. For example, the AI will be able to redraw parts of an image or change its style, replace colors, change individual objects or their surroundings, and make other changes based on text descriptions. It also promises an image generator based on 3D models, a sketch-to-image converter and much more.

But the most important part of Firefly is that Adobe has trained its models on public or licensed images, including from the Adobe Stock library, without knowingly infringing on the artists’ copyrights. Going forward, the company plans to pay data providers and also allow image owners to ban AI training for their content.

As noted by Adobe, this approach enables “Generate quality content, not random [сочетания из] intellectual property of brands and other people, since our model has never seen the content of that brand or brand“. The company also added:We are not afraid of change and accept these changes.“.

Adobe also plans to allow artists to train Firefly with their own images, which is intended to create work in a completely unique, personal style.

Firefly is currently in beta testing and is only available on the Adobe website. Access to the tools is still restricted – you must receive an invitation. Sign up for the queue Anyone can be invited. The company later integrated Firefly into its creative applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro, with a simple visual interface.

Photoshop has AI-generated fills, Illustrator can create vector variations of hand-drawn sketches, and Premiere Pro lets you change an image’s color or style using tooltips. Adobe hasn’t given a release date for these features, but these are some of the features the company is working on.
