Japanese publishing house Square Enix in the recent report for the first half of the current financial year commented on the sales of its action RPG NEO: The World Ends With You.
As a reminder, NEO: The World Ends With You is a sequel to the role-playing game The World Ends With You, which debuted over 14 years ago and has earned cult status among fans.
As it turns out, fan love doesn’t guarantee good sales. NEO: The World Ends With You fell short of Square Enix’s financial expectations, despite high praise from the press and gamers.
Square Enix also confirmed that premium game sales for the reporting period were lower than a year earlier, despite a number of major releases including Outriders, NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139 … and Life is Strange: True Colors.
NEO: The World Ends With You debuted in July this year on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and reached PC (Epic Games Store) in September. In UK retail, the game dropped out of the top 40 in its second week of sales.
