As a reminder, Codename: Red was confirmed in September 2022. It was then announced that development would be led by Ubisoft Quebec and creative director Jonathan Dumont and that the setting would be feudal Japan.
In the past, Henderson said that the protagonists of Codename: Red will reportedly be a samurai woman and an African refugee who studied the Assassin’s Creed and became a shinobi (ninja). Now the insider has clarified that the opposite is true.

The African refugee is a samurai. Fans speculate that the character is based on this Yasuke – the first dark-skinned samurai. In Codename: Red, the samurai assassin will be a strong man with slow but fierce blows.
The woman will be a shinobi who is more agile compared to a samurai. It’s unclear who it’s based on in real life, but the two heroes will have completely different playstyles (skills, weapons).

Henderson also recalled that the game will have an emphasis on stealth, with the ability to hide bodies, hide in the grass and destroy light sources. Now the insider added that players can also destroy elements of the environment (e.g. partitions).
According to Henderson, Assassin’s Creed Codename: Red is already fully playable. Official details are expected in early 2024 and release in late 2024 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S. The project will be part of the Infinity platform.
