The psychological horror Amnesia: The Bunker from the Swedish studio Frictional Games (SOMA) will scare players tomorrow, and Western journalists have decided to warn potential buyers what to prepare for.
On the aggregator’s website metacritical Amnesia: The Bunker has over 25 reviews with an average rating of 78% (PC). The original Amnesia: The Dark Descent received 85% from the critics at the time, while Amnesia: Rebirth received 78%.
Amnesia: The Bunker is set in a World War I bunker, where the amnesiac French soldier Henri Clement finds himself with a revolver, a flashlight and an ever-present monster out hunting him.
Reviewers praise Amnesia: The Bunker for its tense, non-screamer atmosphere, constant dread of an unpredictable monster (see Alien: Isolation), freedom of play, polished game mechanics, and high replay potential.
The shortcomings of the project were identified as evanescence, a weaker storyline compared to previous Frictional games, a small number of innovations and sometimes uncomfortable controls. Some also lacked the automatic save system.
In a review for 3DNews, Denis Shchennikov called Amnesia: The Bunker a successful fusion of horror, adventure and “Immersive Sim”as well as the return “at a time when well-designed gameplay was a big part of the overall experience”.
Amnesia: The Bunker Coming to PC June 6th (steam, GOG, EGS), PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S and Game Pass. A free demo is available for the most impatient in Valve service.
